Island residents have the unique chance to review the Town Master plan that was written and accepted in 1996, and provide submissions for amendments and adjustments to the future possibilities of the town structure.

A working group of Vashon Maury Island Community Council (VMICC) revisits the "Town-Plan" to offer Islanders an opportunity to direct the course of structures available within the Growth Management Act of King County.

In an attempt to reach the community at large and accommodate the schedules of those unable to attend the meetings, a webpage forum was created to address the interests of all residents of Vashon Maury Island.

What you see below is extracted from the 1996 Town Plan. This is our starting point, but obviously this will be updated as needed. Please submit your comments to what needs be added, removed or updated.

The development of the Vashon Town Plan was guided by the following principles:

•Maintain the rural character of the town and island
•Encourage a compact town center in Vashon
•Encourage pedestrian activity in Vashon
•Encourage open and green space
•Encourage economic diversity
•Protect environmentally sensitive and natural areas
•Encourage affordable housing
•Expand small business opportunities in the planning process
•Emphasize residential and commercial infill
